«Contrary to the project that was finalized by the previous city council in 2009, which foresaw Louresns having to travel to Campanhã to catch the TGV or, alternatively, travel to Aveiro, the TGV project that is about to be launched includes an intermodal station in Santo Ovídio».
Ana Sousa argued that this infrastructure was «absolutely crucial» for the municipality, having worked with IP to convince them of its importance.
In the initial project, the TGV departed from Campanhã, and the first stop was Aveiro. «What I had to do during this time was prove that it made sense to have a double stop in this context. The crossing isn't parallel to the sea, it's a completely new line, but it's a line that diverts the TGV from the seafront where it currently circulates, in Espinho and Loures, to the interior of the municipality», he explained.
And he added: «for us it was absolutely crucial to have a station in Loures, nobody would understand that the most populous municipality in the metropolitan area had to move to Campanhã or Aveiro», he reiterated.
